Regrettably, as in 2007, there is no 68km
option offered this year. There are a number who have expressed their plans to
run back to Geelong but this does not form part of the organised run and is
completely unsupported - true FatAss style!
As of 2006, the size of the event required that council & police approval be
given and $10 million public liability insurance attained. Fortunately,
Athletics Australia has an inexpensive system to cover the latter. Such
approvals require several road crossings and the aid stations to be manned
during the run. Achieving this for the 34km run is relatively straight forward
with the help of some friends who generously give their time on the day. Asking
them to do this for the several hours required to cover the 68km trip, however,
is too much and will result in no one willing to help!
If it is your desire to run 68kms, clearly you can still do it but with the
understanding that the return journey is unsupported. Those who plan to do this
are marked on the
provisional start list.
